Early influences from the American folk music revival of the ‘60's and the ‘70's Woodstock era combine with a wealth of world traditions, sounds and rhythms that have become integral to Rahel’s hypnotic sound. Growing up in 1960’s New England, surrounded by the beautiful finger styles of James Taylor and Paul Simon; the perfect synchronicity of Peter Paul & Mary; the complex simplicity of Bob Dylan's prolific social commentary; the open tunings of Mary McCaslin and Joni Mitchell; and the exquisite vocal harmonies & creative meanderings of Crosby Stills & Nash, Rahel set out to emulate the masters. She learned their music and then created her own. The psychedelic sounds of the 1970's, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Janis Joplin and Santana, fed more fuel to her fire. World travels and living in Israel tuned Rahel's musical ears to a fusion of diverse multi-cultural blends of Jewish, Israeli, and an array of world roots sounds and rhythms. Rahel is a juried artist of the NH State Council on the Arts (Folklore and Healthcare Artist rosters); N.E.F.A. (New England Foundation for the Arts), N.E.S.T. (New England States Touring Artist), and is a member of the Sound Healers Association, and New Hampshire Soundcare Musicians. She is a recipient of the prestigious Shem Tov Award for her contributions to enriching Jewish life in New Hampshire, and she is a two-time winner of Israel's AACI English Songwriting Competition. As a seasoned performing artist Rahel has a long list of credentials in songwriting, performance, as a specialist in Music Education, and she offers certification to those who would like to work musically with babies and young children. Rahel's work as a Cantorial Soloist finds her in Jewish settings together with a number of rabbis across New England. Since 2004, as a trained and certified Clinical Musician / Therapeutic Music Practitioner Rahel has been serving musically at bedside for healing, comfort, relief from stress and pain, and for the ill and dying. |
